Why We Say We Will Finalize Your Eyeglass Prescription In Our Optical Shop

When you receive a new eyeglass prescription, our doctors usually tell you that we will finalize it in our optical shop. We do this so you will get the best possible vision from new glasses. Here’s why:

• The pupillary distance (PD) you need for online or in-store purchases is best measured by an optician, not an eye doctor. If you plan to purchase glasses online, please let us help you by measuring your PD so you submit the correct order. We don’t charge for this service.
• Your visual outcome can change a lot depending on the shape of the frame. For instance, if you wear multifocal lenses, you will benefit from a lens frame shape tall enough to accommodate your prescription, or if you have a higher order prescription, you should not choose wrap-around style frames. Our opticians can quickly look at your prescription and recommend frame styles that will give you the best possible vision.
• Many of our patients have slightly complex prescriptions that do not fit into the package lens and frame pricing offered by the big box stores or online discounters. Our opticians are highly trained and have easy access to our doctors to ensure you are getting the glasses that best fit you. Each pair of glasses we make is custom-created for your best personal vision.

Regarding price, if you have vision insurance, your out-of-pocket costs will be the same whether you get new glasses from us or another optical shop. In other words, if you have vision insurance, it doesn’t cost more to buy your glasses from us, and if you don’t have vision insurance, please allow us to price out new frames and lenses so you can shop cost and quality compared to the online or big box chains.

Finally, regardless of where you purchased your glasses, frame adjustment, cleaning, and minor repairs are always free at The Eye Care Institute. If you buy glasses somewhere else and don’t think you are seeing as well as you should be, please bring them to us. We will inspect them and compare them to your prescription to see if there is a way we can help you at no cost.
