Patients, physicians, friends, and co-workers of Dr. Stuart Urbach have lost a giant upon his passing.Dr. Urbach graduated medical school at the University of Louisville in 1947. After completing his internship and residency, he returned to Louisville where he has been associated with the medical school as an attending physician, instructor, and professor continuously since that time. Due to Dr. Urbach’s lengthy tenure, it is possible that he trained more physicians than any other medical school professor in US history. In fact, Dr. Brennan Greene received training from Dr. Urbach during medical school.

During 2019 as our clinical trials division was evolving to include primary care clinical trials, Dr. Urbach joined our practice on a limited basis to work on primary care clinical trials. In January 2021, Dr. Urbach completed a trial with our Butchertown Clinical Trials division involving the use of the human genome to determine risk for cancer based on genetic factors.

Dr. Urbach leaves a deep and wide legacy of compassion and caring, and he will be missed by so many, including the physicians and staff of The Eye Care Institute and Butchertown Clinical Trials.
