Misperceptions about LASIK

The most common misperception is that there will be pain and bleeding. This is not true. A well-known physician who hosts his own medical TV show produced a trailer for an episode on LASIK. The trailer, viewed over two million times, falsely showed bleeding eyelids as a hook to get viewers. LASIK, and all other refractive procedures, are actually bloodless.

Another misperception is that people think it will take a long period of time for their vision to stabilize, and it really doesn’t. It’s often stabilized in 45–90 minutes after the procedure.

Another misperception that people have is that they will be put to sleep during the procedure. Actually, the LASIK surgeon will give you a small dose of medication to make you forget what happened during the procedure.
