Dr. Brennan Greene’s Changing Role

In-Office Care

After three decades of providing patient care at The Eye Care Institute, Dr. Brennan Greene’s last day of scheduled patients was July 31, 2025.

From his first patient care day, he said he wanted to practice for thirty years. He met that goal and helped thousands of patients along the way. By our estimate, he performed over 100,000 ophthalmic examinations, completed over 10,000 cataract and other eye surgeries, and completed thousands of ocular injections.

Clinical Trials

With superb scientific skills and an inquisitive mind, Dr Greene will not be going away, however. He will continue to work with us in our Butchertown Clinical Trials Division, where he will continue to serve as Principal Investigator on medical and surgical clinical trials within ophthalmology, and in other research areas such as nutrition and wellness. So, Dr. Greene will still be around, and you might again encounter him if he thinks you might be a good candidate for a future clinical trial.

Honoring Dr. Greene:

Born and raised in Louisville, Dr. Greene proudly attended St. Xavier High School and Bellarmine University before completing medical school and his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Louisville.

Known for his attention to detail and exceptional bedside manner, Dr. Greene found true joy in caring for patients and in performing outpatient minor surgical procedures. To honor Dr. Greene, we have named our procedure room The Dr. Brennan P. Greene, MD Procedure Room.

For each patient, Dr. Greene has chosen another doctor at The Eye Care Institute that he believes will best fit the eye care needs for that patient.
