Streamlining Your Visit at The Eye Care Institute

With a Pre Appointment Phone Call

Dear Patients,

When you visit us, or any medical practice, you are always asked to provide this information at the beginning of your medical visit:

  • Personal medical history

  • Family medical history

  • Current prescription medications

  • Any known allergies

  • Surgical history

To keep up with advances in electronic medical records and current labor trends, we hired Phone COA, a virtual ophthalmic technician staffing firm, to call our patients and record this information in your chart. We know the people behind Phone COA personally; their senior leaders have often been to our practice to run our staff training programs.

Phone COA has embraced the current "work from home" environment by hiring certified ophthalmic technicians who love their careers but are no longer working in eye care practices full time. Their eye care staff, who might be anywhere in the United States, will call you from our caller ID one to three weeks before your appointment and update your medical history over the phone.

When you arrive for your exam, we can skip the in-person history questions and proceed to the technician portion of your exam, saving as much as 5 to 10 minutes of in-office time. We also expect to have more complete records about your health as you will be able to answer from the comfort of your home with access to prescription bottles or other information you may need.

Our history of on-time appointments has always been one of our hallmarks. Within the past six months, we lost several staff members who have childcare issues or prefer to work from home. We have not found suitable candidates to replace these staff members. By working with Phone COA, patient appointments will stay on time while giving you the same level of excellent eye care you expect from us.

Please remember, if you receive a call in advance of your next appointment, the caller knows your appointment date and time, your eye doctor's name, and they identify themselves as being employed by Phone COA, it is a legitimate call. Your help by providing the information requested will ensure your in-person appointment remains on time.

Feel free to reach out to us directly if you have feedback.

We appreciate you placing your trust in us.

Sincerely,

Mark Prussian and The Doctors of The Eye Care Institute
