University of Louisville The Eye Care Institute, University of Louisville Athletic Association and Nelligan Sports Marketing are pleased to announce The Eye Care Institute is named as the official eye care provider for University of Louisville Cardinal athletics. Background Since about 1985, The Eye Care Institute (and it’s predecessor medical practice names) has provided all eye care for the University of Louisville Cardinal athletic program, including players, coaches and administrative staff. Originally, the program included only Cardinal basketball and football teams. As NCAA rules changed to give equal health care status to athletes for all collegiate sports teams, The Eye Care Institute continued to increase the amount of eye services provided at no cost to the Cardinals. Until this time, however, the care provided has been performed without an official, approved designation. Contract Terms 1. The Eye Care Institute receives the right to use official eye care provider terminology in conjunction with the University of Louisville Athletic Association. 2. The Eye Care Institute receives the right to use the trademarked University of Louisville athletic logos in its promotional material. 3. The Eye Care Institute is the sole eye care provider able to use the official designation. 4. The Eye Care Institute is the sole eye care provider for advertising and promotions controlled by the University of Louisville Athletic Association and Nelligan Sports Marketing. 5. The Eye Care Institute agrees to continue to provide eye care for Cardinal athletes, trainers and administrators in accordance with NCAA regulations. 6. The contract extends through 2011. 7. Financial terms are not disclosed. Reaction at The Eye Care Institute Dr Brennan Greene, a senior ophthalmologist at The Eye Care Institute, and a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine, along with completing his Internal Medicine Internship and Ophthalmology residency at the University of Louisville said “As a proud alum of U of L, I am pleased we are able to strengthen and continue our relationship with the Cards. Further, we provide many eye services on campus and at U of L’s sports stadiums. UofL CardinalFacts about The Eye Care Institute Founded in 1981, The Eye Care Institute has over 100,000 active medical charts and provided over 37,000 patient visits last year. Over 3,000 LASIK laser vision correction procedures have been performed at The Eye Care Institute. Special areas of interest for the practice include LASIK, cataract surgery, glaucoma care, diabetic eye care, macular degeneration care, routine eye exams, contact lenses, ReSTOR distance and near vision for almost everyone and Botox Cosmetic. The practice employs 5 doctors plus 42 staff members. Full time offices are at 1536 Story Avenue in Butchertown and at Audubon Hospital. Both full time Louisville offices feature optical shops with a wide selection of frames and lenses from designer to budget conscious. Part-time care is provided in Kentucky at Glasgow and Bowling Green and in Indiana at Madison at Scottsburg.
